Peel and stick in a room with hardwoods

Our entire first floor is hardwood flooring (oak to be specific) and in our living room in front of the front door there is a kind of 1950's style flooring on top of our hardwoods. Eventually we plan to take it off (it's already chipped) next time we need to sand and refinish the hardwoods, but for now we are looking for a temporary solution. It's just a few square feet right in front of the front door. Any peel and stick pattern ideas that would look good next to the hardwood? Or another cheap, easy, DIY way to cover this part of the floor? TIA!
