Clearing space for more equipment

I'm not sure if this is an odd question or if this has already been asked before, but what are some tips for figuring out what old equipment to get rid of?
I've been pretty much at my limit of 6000 for a while, and I'm not sure how I'm gonna cull more equipment for more space!
