How to tell your acquaintances you are divorced
I have been in a relationship from hell for 27 years…married for 23 years.
Early this year I decided to file for divorce.
We have been estranged for over 12 years…this was the result of my being seriously ill with cancer…we had a disagreement over a bad decision that he made…and the bastard slammed me into the wall and broke my chemo port in my chest. This was the beginning of a long list of atrocious, abusive deeds committed by my soon to be ex husband.
I was given less than a 40 percent chance of living 5 years at that point in time. I didn’t do anything because I figured I was going to die anyway…what was the point.
As time went on, I gradually got stronger and I realized that I found my healing and my voice. I began to isolate myself from the evil troll and his despicable family.
Over the past few years I have decided to give life another try. Several months ago I found what I have been seeking all my life.
The divorce is a few months away from its conclusion. My children (from my first marriage) know, as do a handful of friends.
I have lived in this area for my entire life, and am relatively well known. How would you recommend that I tell everyone that I am divorced?
It will undoubtedly be a surprise to most people, as I don’t air my dirty laundry in public. To people who pay attention, it shouldn’t be a surprise…I have been distancing myself from my ex gradually since my cancer diagnosis (when the abuse began) and cut off contact with his family immediately after the first act of violence. Yes, their meddling precipitated the attack on my person.
Your advice is much appreciated.
