Important PSA for those looking for relationships on reddit/posting personals
I've recently discovered the hard way that the reddit chat system is hiding some messages in an easily overlooked place, the "additional requests" section. More importantly, requests that ended up in there DID NOT GIVE A NOTIFICATION.
Essentially no one is going to check there without a notification, and it's easily missable if you don't pay attention. As far as I can tell, there's no way to turn this off.
Someone sent me a very long and very heartfelt message, and I missed it for about a month because of this. She very likely thought I was ignoring her, after all her effort, because I was still posting without responding. While I messaged her back as soon as I saw it, I expect I won't hear back.
Don't let this happen to you!
