First car, honda

I live in europe (hungary), and I've been looking at 2000-2005~ honda civics, with specifically the 1.6 engine (i mostly saw 1.6i es engines and not Vtec). Im a Honda lover because of the family car being that, fell in love with them, so I'd like my first car to be a honda too. My question is, how realiable is the car itself and what are the common problems with it, ive read that head gaskets like blowing, but that they are also an "easy" home fix if it's not dented. If you have other suggestions on other cars should take a look at I'd appreciate it!
