I hate long hair, but I'm determined to keep it long.

Cut Help

Given the title, what long hairstyle should I try getting? So like the title says, I really hate my long hair. Mom insisted it be long as a kid, and I guess theres more emotions there than I realized. My husband really likes long hair on me, so I'd like to keep it long for him. That's not him pressuring me, he's honest about his preference (as I am with him) and I want to choose to keep it long if I can. The long straight, boring hair reminds me of childhood and I really don't want it. I cut it to above my shoulder after we got married, and I adored the short cut so much. Things I hate about my long hair; I am unable to style it or put it up. I can't braid, I can't do ponytails evenly, I can't even curl it because it goes straight after an hour. I never leave it down though, so it ends up in an unattractive messy bun, or up in a hairclip every day. I think it's messing up my hair line unfortunately. Things I liked about the short cut; it felt cute and feminine, I put clips in it, and I was able to do some cute styles with it because it was more manageable. It dried faster and used less products.

I'm not comfortable posting a picture, so I'll try to describe my hair. Idk if color matters, but it's light brown/dirty blonde, naturally gets highlights in the summer. (I do like the color, so not dying it.) It's medium thickness, but I think it looks thin because it's super straight, but it does take forever to dry, but it only makes a medium/small size ponytail. Current length is about halfway down my back, but it was to my waist or longer most of my childhood/life.

As for maintenance, I'm super lazy and I'm a mom so honestly it's not great. I brush sometimes, and I shampoo twice and condition once because it gets oily if I don't. Showers are 2-3 times a week typically, again with a toddler it's a bit sporadic. I use suave, or Aussie, or love beauty and planet. Kind of anything on sale of gifted to me. I've never tried hair masks, I don't do oils, I have texturing spray that I mostly only used when it was short as now it just feels crunchy and my hair looks straight no matter what I do (it's too heavy I guess? Shaping doesn't stay in).

I really want it to look different but still long. I need a different feel/vibe. It's gotta be low maintenance, or mom maintenance. I'm thinking bangs, and maybe a butterfly or wolf cut? Just curious what a bunch of y'all would suggest that would be decently low maintenance, and also be different than long straight hair. I'm also probably going to go into a salon and ask the stylist what they think, but I don't have a stylist to go to that I just trust instantly, so I'd like to get as much feedback as possible. I know that feedback will be less because of the lack of a picture, but that's just what I'm comfortable with. Thanks for reading this far if you did, and for any suggestions!
