I don't know what career to choose
I'm in my 20s. I have experience working taking care of elderly people and I used to be a voluntary Red Cross first responder. I know that I'm drawn to the field of health and humanities, I took a vocational test that confirmed it. Also I really enjoyed my volunteer work, helping others heal and keeping them safe truly makes me happy.
My true vocation is medicine, but I wouldn't be able to practice it because I have a visual disability. Here's a detailed explanation of my condition so you can better understand my situation:
-Very blurry vision due to aphakia
-Visual Snow Syndrome
-High risk of going blind at a young age due to damaged retinas
-A head injury left my left eye nearly useless. I can't even read with it.
So now I’m considering these degrees:
-Law. It would be easier because it's about reading and I can still do that.
-Bachelor's in Kinesiology and Physical Therapy. I don't know about this, would I be able to help people?
-Bachelor's in Obstetrics. It's what in USA they call "midwife". How would I know if a woman is dilated? How would I insert an IUD? Would my disability prevent me from doing so?
I feel most comfortable with Obstetrics, but I have the feeling that, given my visual limitations, it will be difficult (if not impossible) to work in that field. And I want to study something that I’ll actually be able to work in later. So Law seems like the best option. It’s a hard decision because I’ve always wanted to work in health, and this feels like the wrong choice for me.
