I think I have Microsomatophobia – fear triggered by tiny humanoids interacting with giants
Hi everyone, I wanted to share something that’s been bothering me for a long time but that I’ve only recently found the words for.
I think I suffer from something I’m calling Microsomatophobia – an intense discomfort or fear response when I see scenes involving tiny human-like characters (especially when they have exposed skin) interacting closely with much larger humans or creatures. This gets significantly worse when there is direct skin-to-skin contact.
Examples that trigger me include scenes from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, The Boys (the termite character), Love, Death & Robots (the drowned giant episode), and fetish content involving "giantess" or "vore" themes, even when they’re not sexual. I also feel extremely uneasy when the tiny character is vulnerable or unprotected — it’s like a mix of dread, disgust, and anxiety.
Interestingly, I’m less affected when the miniature character wears a full suit (like Ant-Man in the MCU). So I’ve realized it’s really about exposed flesh interacting with another body, especially on a scale that emphasizes size difference and vulnerability.
I’ve never seen this phobia discussed in detail before.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Does anyone know of an official name or related condition?
Thanks for reading. I’d really appreciate hearing if others relate to this or have insight.
