Flights take off in heavy rain?

Hey All,

I have a pretty big important trip coming up and the weather is showing massive rain the day and time we fly out.

I'm a little nervous our flight will be delayed or cancelled. Out of curiosity, and i understand this isn't directly related to United, but I'm flying out on united. Do planes typically still take off in heavy rain?
