Donald Trumpo (An ancient history)

Gone Wild

I asked Ai to rewrite modern history as if it had happened in ancient times:

Gaius Julius Trumpo: The Populist of the Republic

Background:

Gaius Julius Trumpo was born into the wealthy Trumponianus family, known for its lavish estates and marble bathhouses across the empire. A master builder and showman, Trumpo rose to fame not through war or scholarship, but through grand spectacles and ludi (games) he hosted for the masses.

He boasted endlessly of his achievements—gold-tiled villas, towering obelisks, and the infamous “Trumponian Wall,” meant to keep out barbarian traders and “unskilled” slaves.

⸻

The Rise:

As discontent with the corrupt Senate grew, Trumpo seized the moment. He ran for Consul not as a statesman but as a self-proclaimed outsider. His campaign scrolls read:

“Make Roma Magna Iterum” (Make Rome Great Again).

He appealed to the plebs urbana, promising them bread, honor, and the return of “true Roman values.” The patricians scoffed—until he won, stunning the empire.

⸻

The Reign:

As Consul, Trumpo did things… differently: • He issued decrees via public criers who spoke in his exact, exaggerated style. • He waged verbal wars with the Senate, calling his critics fake orators and backstabbers of the Republic. • He replaced the Temple priests with loyal sycophants who praised him as a demi-god of fortune and marble. • He built colossal statues of himself across the Forum, each larger than the last.

He also feuded constantly with the imperial scribes, calling the Acta Diurna (Rome’s daily gazette) “the lying scrolls.”

⸻

The Downfall:

After a disputed second term, Trumpo refused to relinquish the fasces (symbol of office). On the Ides of Januarius, he led a mob of gladiators, merchants, and debtors into the Curia Julia, claiming election fraud by “shadowy elites from Carthage.”

This act—dubbed the Insurrectio Capitolina—shocked even his allies. The Senate charged him with sedition. He fled to a private island villa, claiming he was still the “true voice of Rome.”

⸻

Legacy:

Some saw him as a populist hero who challenged the old guard. Others cursed his name in the streets of Rome. Bards wrote ballads both mocking and glorifying him. Mysterious cults even emerged that believed Trumpo would one day return to rule again—“when Rome needs him most.”

His marble likeness was torn down in some cities… yet gilded in gold in others.
