Reconnecting to joy possible?
I’ve decided to return to this community because, honestly, I’ve never felt the kind of support in my day-to-day life that I’ve found here.
I’ve been staying committed to therapy, which has helped in many ways, but I still find myself wondering: When is everything going to finally click? It’s been over a year now. Back in 2023, I was hospitalized during what I can only describe as a full-blown mental breakdown. Since then, I’ve been on Citalopram. It’s kept me relatively stable, but I feel… numb. Like everything’s just kind of meh. I miss those deep belly laughs, the kind that make your whole body feel lighter. Things can be funny, sure—but I want to truly feel it.
To top it off, I’ve gained a lot of weight on the medication. Even when I try to eat right or exercise, the scale doesn’t budge, which has been incredibly discouraging. I feel like I’m putting in the work, but the progress is so slow it feels like nothing’s changing.
I’m also a single mom to a teenager, and there’s this constant guilt that I’m not showing up 100% for them. That I’m somehow falling short because I’m still struggling.
So, I’m here looking for some light. Some inspiration. Maybe even a story or tip from someone who felt stuck and had that moment when things finally started to shift. How did you begin to see the positives again? How did you reconnect with joy?
