Why can’t I get into anything pre 3

I want to play all the borderlands games before 4 comes out. I have played all of them before but the only one I really enjoyed was 3 because the gunplay felt chaotic but not too difficult however when playing any of the others it feels slow and difficult as no matter what level I am nothing will die because a lot of the guns don’t feel very good to use. I finished 3 and 1 but am struggling to get through 2 because it’s just not fun to me because of it’s difficulty I’m planning on picking up the handsome collection for ps5(4) to give it another shot as my switch is on its deathbed and really inconvenient to play on (this is what i finished one on and played part of 2 and pre sequel I played 3 on ps5). I figure I’m probably doing something wrong when playing so do you guys have any advice to make it not feel like every enemy is a bullet sponge?(I did like what I played of the pre sequel because claptrap and his random ult added variety but I still feel that every enemy takes too long to kill)
