It seems to me there's too many shades of tan, beige, and brown in this space. I'm looking for ideas on what combination of paints, rugs, accent pillows, and curtains/drapes I could use to liven this place up with more color and make it feel cozy.

I had been heavily considering making the fireplace wall into an accent wall in some shade of terra cotta red (pic 3 - the pics do not provide good color fidelity but they're Sherwin Williams rookwood terra cotta and Sierra redwood, and valspar rusted earth), and continuing that shade on the bottom part of the adjacent dining room (I can't stand that combination of blues) paired with some lighter neutral.

However, I'm realizing this living room is not that large (16.5 x 15 feet) and a red of this shade may make the room feel too small, even with the white fireplace, my large 3 piece canvas, and white curtains. If I still do an accent wall, I'm now also considering SW blanched thyme, herbal wash, natural linen, antique white, and bungalow beige. I'd also be open to some sort of darker tan/brown with a cinammon tone.

I could be persuaded to forego an accent wall in the living room altogether, but I really need to find a better paint scheme in the dining room.

My limitations are that this is a rental and I'm not willing or able to completely repaint or refloor the place, or buy new furniture. I don't know precisely what color the existing walls and ceiling are, but when the SW rep looked at the colorant ratios on the old paint can, the closest she could find was tumblin tumbleweed.
