Why does every Indian family that comes into the touristy gift shop I work in buy a refrigerator magnet?

Obviously magnets are a popular souvenir in general, but it seems like every Indian family I encounter at work buys 1 fridge magnet, and often nothing else. I just wonder how popular they are as collections in India?

I wonder if it’s a cultural thing, like other families might focus more on kids stuff (toys etc) rather than a single family gift to remember the trip. Or just a tradition when traveling

I also tend to buy magnets as souvenirs, for me it’s a money thing I think haha they aren’t too pricey
