Thought Experiment
I did this experiment recently:
-
Try to think of the topic(s) / messages shared in the talks of your most recent Sacrament meeting. (Excluding Fast meeting testimonies)
-
(This one may be easier) Try to think of whom exactly it was that gave the talks.
-
Repeat this exercise but go back two weeks ago, then a month.
My personal experience is that I cannot remember anything shared in the last month. And no, I don’t have dementia, and yes, I was trying to listen.
I believe we don’t remember because the topics are so bland, and often the talks are poorly prepared and repetitive that most folks just tune out. Just look at the blank stares / glassy eyes of your fellow ward members next week when the talks are given.
Usually, we only remember when someone says something totally off the wall.
I am curious to hear your experiences with this experiment.
