Auto Start/Stop feature. Good or bad for engine or other parts?

Auto Start/Stop feat in a vehicle, where like at stop lights the engine stops and then starts when you move. In order to save gas. Is it possible it can be shortening the life of the engines and/or other parts like the alternator for being repeatedly stopped and started like that?
