Can we relax with the “house slave” comparisons

At risk of sounding like I’m speaking for Black folks, these “house slave” memes are not sitting well in my gut. I think there are far better ways to critique AB and Ethan than conflating AB’s behaviour with enslaved Black Americans.

Using the image of Samuel L Jackson in Django is off the mark — there are really shocking, borderline trauma-porn depictions of slavery in this movie. This isn’t to say slavery shouldn’t be looked back on via media (we should always remember and learn from this period in recent history), though to draw a parallel between AB — who is acting like a fuckwit — and enslaved Black Americans who were dehumanised, tortured, sold and murdered is wrong.

There are better ways to have this conversation and it shouldn’t involve this.
