Breaking fashion rules
Transfem-adjacent person here with a love for masc formalwear. I have a banquet coming up for my college and the dress theme is "black and white" (no actual dress code terminology used, just the colors). I'm set on wearing a tailcoat but need... reassurance, I guess, since I'm breaking away from classic white tie. I have fem wide-legged pants, a black velvet shawl collar waistcoat (also fem), a wing collar shit, and a black cravat, which is all a significant departure from correct white tie dress. Last time I went, people were dressed in everything from fantasy-esque clothing to tuxedos.
So yeah. Is this a thing any of y'all have done? I'm finding literally nothing online, probably because it's very much against the rules. I love this tailcoat and I think I just need reassurance even though I know I'm probably fine.
