What should I know about commission?

Dental Professional

For reference I’m an RDH practicing in Canada. Going to be negotiating a rate and contract soon. I’m curious to hear from an office owners perspective what determines how you guys choose a rate or things I should consider when discussing this with management as I don’t want to be greedy but want to be fairly compensated at the same time. For some background info I have my local, and my production per hour excluding downtime was around $315 CAD in 2024.

Would it be right of me to ask my commission to include the X-rays that I take, seeing as how I’m using my chair time to take them and in my province RDHs can order/interpret and diagnose certain things on radiographs.

30% is the minimum commission average. I was leaning towards a 30% commission that includes radiographs or 35% for no radiographs.

I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this
