Clingy cat advice
I adopted a cat at a shelter a few weeks ago and need some advice. He is 3 years old and the shelter told me he was a friendly chill cat. And he is a sweet cat and isn't bad/ doesn't destroy anything. The problem is that he is ridiculously clingy. I figured he was lonely at first because I work 10 hour shifts, but even on my off days I could sit playing with him or letting sit in my lap for 4 hours straight but the second I get up to do anything he's running in front of me and meowing nonstop. When I go to the bathroom he claws at the door. When I go to sleep he wants to sit on top of my neck and when I put him in his cat bed he crawls underneath the bed and and scratches my bedpost. I haven't got good sleep in weeks because of it. I try to cuddle with him as much as possible but I am very reclusive and I can not get any alone time whatsoever. It's to the point where I can't get anything done or do anything at home because I have so much anxiety about him. I didn't get a kitten for this reason but should I have gotten an older cat? I just don't know what to do because I haven't had him long but I'm thinking maybe I should find him a home where people will appreciate that because everyone I ask so far just says that's normal. Can I do something to calm him down? Or should I just bring him back to the shelter?
