Native grass/wildflower strips in yard/goat grazing space. Looking for good native forage plant suggestions.
I’ve got a small goat herd and a 5 acre property 3/5 of which is wooded, most of the yard/grazing space is fescue and inedible non native weeds like creeping charlie and crabgrass my plan is to kill off the creeping charlie while keeping the fescue. Then do core aeration and scarify and sew in several strips and clumps of this deer and turkey mix with fescue/rye/clover paths around and through the native patches. The seed mix is really expensive so I’m looking for anything cheaper but still native and that has forage value that I can add to the mix.
Mostly looking for plants that are leafy that are analogous to normal goat forage like clover, vetch, trefoil, etc… but native.
