Blatant Auto drivers
I recently visited to Bhubaneswar after my college days and decided to roam with Mom-seeking a bit of nostalgia. During our outing, I booked an OLA auto. The driver called shortly after, asking me where I intended to go. I was puzzled — why do drivers here feel the need to inquire about the destination when they’ve already accepted the booking? Isn’t the system designed to remove that friction?
This seems to be a widely accepted practice in India, and frankly, I struggle to understand it. As a paying customer, I expect the service to be fulfilled without unnecessary questioning. When I asked the driver about it, he bluntly responded, “Buy your own car if you don’t like it.” Ironically, it was a brutally honest reminder — of mode of transport and how difficult it is..
Later, I booked a cab and asked the driver if he could see the drop location. He admitted that, in most cases, they do see it before accepting a ride. It left me wondering about the reliability and intent behind this process.
The situation didn’t improve at the airport. After nearly 30 hours of international travel, I found myself struggling to get a cab. Drivers wouldn't move until I personally called them. Really ?Is this the norm? How do people navigate this daily? Why people are accepting these critical situations I don't understand and you are paying for it ?
I’ve been considering investing in property here, but these experiences have made me pause.
