Moongate Shenanigans?

So I only just bought a Moongate even though I'm 2800 days in. I thought it was just a fun way to check out what bases other people got but apparently you can mine rocks and take fruits??? There didn't seem to be any downsides as far as I can tell. The two I mentioned was a white action as opposed to dismantling stuff with a hammer which is red and would be a crime I'm guessing and will bring down karma.

Is whatever you do in their base going to be permanent? Is that allowed? I didn't know this game had base raid mechanics...
