AITA: My Roommate Locked Me Out… So I Exposed Her Secret in Front of Everyone.
Okay. So I used to live with this girl in college—let’s call her Brooke. We weren’t best friends or anything, just random roommates. At first, everything was fine. But then, little things started happening.
Like, food going missing. Dishes left in the sink for DAYS. Lights left on all night. The usual roommate stuff, right? I let it go. But one night? Everything changed.
I came home after a long shift at my part-time job. It’s like 11PM, I’m exhausted, and when I try to unlock the door… my key doesn’t work. At first, I think I’m just tired and fumbling. But nope—she had changed the lock. No warning. No text. Nothing.
I call her. No answer. I text her: “Hey, are you home? I can’t get in.” She replies with one word: “Sleep.”
I’m standing there in the hallway with my backpack, no jacket, freezing, and I’m PISSED. I end up crashing on a friend’s couch. The next morning, I finally get inside. She’s just in the kitchen, sipping coffee like nothing happened.
I ask her why she locked me out, and she says, “Oh, I thought you said you were going home for the weekend.” I NEVER said that. She just shrugged and walked away. No apology. Nothing.
That’s when I decided—I was done playing nice.
See, Brooke had this big secret. One she thought I didn’t know. But I knew everything. She had been sneaking her boyfriend into our apartment constantly—even though our lease strictly said no overnight guests without both roommates’ permission.
And not just that. She was also secretly subletting her room on weekends when she went home—literally making money off our place without telling the landlord or me.
So… I gathered my receipts. Screenshots. Messages. Even a photo of a listing she posted under a fake name.
Then I sent it ALL… to our landlord. No warning. Just hit send.
Two days later, Brooke comes storming in. Screaming that she’s getting evicted, that her parents are furious, that I ruined her life.
And I just said, “I thought you said you were going home for the weekend.”
She moved out in 3 days. I got a new roommate. Peace restored.
Moral of the story? Don’t mess with someone who knows where you hide your secrets.
