Does Mi Sound Enhancer work with headphones made by another company other than Mi ?

I don't have Mi headphones. I have headphones made by a completely different brand. I was just wondering if I could still use the Mi sound enhancer.

I want to consume the music as the artist intended; so I'm not sure if enabling the Mi sound enhancer prevents me from doing it. Please educate me a little bit.
