How Do You Handle People Yelling Outside?
Hello!
I live in a big city. Often, people and my neighbors will scream outside of my apartment. Sometimes it will be deep, guttural yells. Other times throat-tearing screams. All of the noises, in combination with the words, seem to be intended to portray something positive.
I struggle when it is outside of my apartment, because I worry that they are going to come inside and hurt me or be very loud in the units around me. When they are loud in the surrounding units, they tend to play music that keeps me up all night, and punch things and stomp. This creates loud impacts, and the impacts sound like being punched or threatened (I have historically been threatened by people in the same room as me punching walls near my head, etc).
I think I'm afraid that people who are yelling loudly are unpredictable, and that the choice to yell is already leaning towards the enjoyment of violence or rage. Case in point, whenever I hear the yelling, I always become afraid that they will hurt me.
Do you have any advice for this? I am in therapy, but even with the coping mechanisms I have been given I still struggle due to comorbid conditions such as depression and autism.
