Alcohol/drug induced nystagmus

I used an inhalant as a kid and had rapid eye movements that lasted but I was able to get over it, did well in college in a highly technical subject and have been a professional for a decade. I also did well in motorsports, but the nystagmus was still there and I have always had a hard time reading.

I have been struggling for a few years and have been drinking a lot for reasons I won't elaborate on. I notice after several days drinking in a row (I have sometimes done a week or so of drinking, and have had quite a few of these episodes in the last few years), I notice I have nystagmus pretty bad when hungover and feel really awful mentally for pretty long periods now. I am taking this seriously and changing my ways (not sure what took me so long), but I have lingering nystagmus that I'm hoping goes away again, back to where it's not super noticeable. I have read it can be permanent in some cases and just wanted to see if recovering alcoholics have had vision go back to normal, or if it was permanent were there ways they were able to see improvements.
