First time trip to Costa Rica - where should we stay?

My friend and I (both ~25F) are traveling to Costa Rica for the first time later in May. We're flying into Liberia airport. The idea was to do a mix of relaxing and adventurous activities - some yoga, some hikes, maybe some horseback riding, definitely looking for lots of good food. Big thing for us is safety, since we're two women traveling alone. Initially we were looking at staying at Bodhi Tree resort in Nosara, but now questioning whether there are restaurants and other things to do in the area. So we're looking for any recommendations from people who live there or have visited on where we should stay! Probably going to stick to the pacific coast, but open to any suggestions. Looking forward to visiting and appreciate any advice!!
