Yellow Kid Leader Ability

Can you use the leader ability on active card? So say I play Hawkins on 4 don and end of my turn use leader ability. Can I select Hawkins to be a blocker even though he’s active because I just played him? On the sim you can do it but was wondering in an official rules setting? Thanks ☺️
