Need some thoughts from AO3 writers

Research Studies

Sooo, I've been a (long-time) reader and (recently) writer on AO3, and I felt so engaged with it that I decided to study the site for my asm. I would really appreciate if writers, readers, or anyone could possibly answer any of these questions:

  1. What makes you decide to post a fanfiction to AO3? Like, it’s different when you write a fanfiction and keep it to yourself. Do you expect to receive anything (readership, recognition, fandom growth, etc.) when publishing your work?
  2. What does it require to become a fanfiction writer?
  3. What are some challenges you encounter as an AO3 writer?
  4. How important is “writing fanfiction” to you? I’m not a writer with an AO3 curse, but I’m curious. It seems being an AO3 writer can change your view on being a fan, on writing, or even your life?
  5. What are the most valuable things you get out of other writers here on reddit?
  6. Do you reveal your fanfiction writer identity in real life? If you did (deliberately or by accident), what was the reaction? If not, why so?
  7. Do you often interact with your readers? How do you describe your relationship with them?
  8. What is your experience of writing and posting on AO3? It can be the UX/UI design, tags, skins, notifications, comment sections, or how you learn to use the site.
