Big Island

Looking to go for a week at the end of May. Have flights lined up but curious should I split days (4/3 5/2) between Kona and Hilo or is the drive bearable from Kona to Hilo once or twice in order to explore volcanoes np and to be able to star gaze on manua?

Would also greatly appreciate best food options on big island especially for poke and or sushi.
