Hello all, I just wanted to ask a question as I’m 23 and this is a totally new situation and world to me. I was involved in an auto incident in mid September of 2024. When taking a left I was hit, spun out twice and hit another vehicle. Both my vehicle, and the one who hit me were totaled out. With the 3rd receiving minor damage in the form of a dented door. And shattered window. Due to state law, since I was making a left turn I was deemed at fault by insurance. I did ask for a police report on the scene. Due to the situation I was NOT issued a citation or ticket of any form. Both parties, did claim medical compensation on my claim. As I expected to cover any appointments to check for wellbeing.

Towards the end of September insurance sent a letter that the individual whom I’d spun into hired legal council and requested my policy limits and coverage. Which were provided by my insurance company. One thing I will note, is this individual at the time of the accident told me he saw the other driver going to fast. And backed up what I had experienced. However, once I gave my report to my adjuster. His story changed. How, 8 months later. An email is received from my insurance company. Stating this person is suing the insurance company for the maximum policy limit. Which is 250K per person 500K per incident.

My question is, how likely is this to go over policy and cause myself and my family to enter into possible financial turmoil. I’m on my families Policy. So, any overage would be on them. And id feel gutted.

I appreciate any information or advice.
