Did I get scammed?

I just completed the story quest that gives me a max scroll and I got the star rage black hole but it only kills me. Am I missing something when I use the skill, like hold the button to make it go farther away or something? It didn't even work on the enemy I used it on just took me to Neverland and killed me.
