Transitioning to Risk Management from mid-tier firm?

Hello - is moving to risk management from a mid-tier consulting firm a smart exit?

Most of my recent projects have been in risk management and there are a lot of open Senior Risk Manager positions open in the area (I'm currently a manager, so it would be a promotion).

Would this limit my long-term career growth? Would I be better off pursuing Strategy/IC roles in industry if I could get one?

I'm doing alright at my current firm I just feel like promotion feels very far away right now and need a chance. I suppose I could also always come back to consulting if I really wanted to, right?
