I hate when people answer my messages right away.
And it’s ironic, because I work in social media, so I’m always on my phone- whether it be for work or pleasure. But just because I’m active on socials does NOT mean I’m available to talk. I can’t stand the growing expectation of being “always available/connected” just because it’s possible these days.
Socializing (even virtually!) is exhausting. When I am actively on my phone and I see a message come through, I often won’t read it. I’ll have to go back later when I have the mental energy to process what it says and come up with a reply.
So it’s my worst nightmare when I meet someone new, exchange info, and they start a meaningless filler convo just to be in touch. “wyd” “what did you have for dinner” “(insert literally any icebreaker)” 🫠
And it’s even WORSE when I do answer, and get responses back within minutes. Now I gotta go through this whole draining process again.
It doesn’t bother me if you actually have something to say, and it doesn’t even bother me if I have multiple messages to catch up on when I do get around to reading them! If I haven’t answered in a few days I also understand checking in to make sure I got them. I just can’t stand clingy people in any capacity lol.
Unless the message is urgent, I wish we’d make it a social norm to not expect a reply for 2-3 business days.
