Toddler repeats himself until I repeat him

So my almost 3 year old will repeat his statement over and over and over (and over) again UNTIL I repeat what he says. Even if I acknowledge what he’s saying with a “yeah” “really?” Or whatever. I HAVE to repeat what he’s saying and then he stops and moves on. I know echolalia can be normal but usually THEY are repeating what WE are saying. Anyone have insight into this? Is it just a normal phase?
