Night Guard Worsening TMJ

I have had painless jaw clicking for years, probably since I was a teen. For the last 4 to 5 years I have started having night time teeth grinding. After needing dental bonding done on my two front teeth due to grinding causing exposed dentin, I got a custom fit Night Guard made by my dentist in late January. Since I began wearing it every night, I have occasionally now begun waking up in the middle of the night with lock jaw. This has happened a handful of times. It very quickly seemed to fix itself though so I didn't worry too much. BUT last weekend I woke up in the morning with lock jaw and it lasted a full 3 days. This only began once I started wearing the night guard. I have now scheduled an appointment with both a chiropractor and a TMJ specialist for the upcoming week so hopefully I get some answers. Has anyone dealt with a night guard making your TMJ worse?
