The show is going back to ESPN
I am a reporter, and I am reporting this...
Who knows, but let me make the case. With Jess, Lucy, and seemingly Samson gone from main show regularity, we are basically back down to the espn cast plus Jeremy and Tony. With Skipper gone, I think the company is pretty easily absorbed by espn. The show maintains strong relationships with espn talent and does really strong work with Foxworth and Hawkins. Now that the digital audio space has reached some maturity, I can see espn investing in rebuilding their traditional radio brand with a strong daily lineup that is plugged into the machine of tv/youtube/sirius/podcast. It doesn't make sense to me that espn would be satisfied being so successful with McAfee and just failing hard in almost every other audio thing they have tried to do post covid. Lebatard/Foxworth/McAfee is a pretty strong daily lineup and if you can find a fourth for afternoon drive time you got a stew goin. Espn management also seems to have seriously chilled out on a lot of the controlling stuff Dan took issue with, and I can see Dan being willing to throw in his management towel after these 4 years for some stability. Further, Pablo is blowing the bleep up. PTFO rates and drives conversation online and espn would find a lot of value in that. I also believe Pablos q score is way higher than it was 4 years ago, and espn might think they can get some of those morning joe eyeballs with him more involved on the network.
I'm trying to zig, while others zag here. What do you think?
