Irish records guidance

I am working on tracing a couple different lines of my paternal ancestry. I have a several times great grandfather who was born in Ireland ~1780s based on Scottish census records but I don’t know where. I do have his death certificate that listed both parents names. Does anyone have suggestions for where to look? Roots Ireland didn’t have anything and I am not familiar with Irish records that far back.
