Aftermarket battery cell replacement?

Heya, super niche question I know.

So I've heard the x240 era BMS will kill itself if you replace the cells in the battery, but does anyone know if this would carry over to third party batteries?

I've got a Lenoge 6 cell that lasts all of 20 minutes, and a box of relatively fresh 18650s, but don't want to gamble and lose my ability to move from one outlet to the next.
