my espresso is coming out watered down

for starters, i just got an espresso machine yesterday and have never made any sort of espresso before. my only experience with coffee machines is a keurig lol i just bought a chefman cafe master pro espresso machine. i know it’s cheap compared to what a lot of people on here have but its my first machine and it was on sale lol. whenever i brew coffee it comes out tasting like warm water with a hint of coffee. i will admit my grounds are probably expired. i’m also not sure if im putting enough coffee in the basket. is regular starbucks ground coffee okay to use? i know these questions are silly but like i said i just got this machine and i want to make good coffee 🥲
