Should I set HTPC to 24hz?

So after a discussion in which I was clearly mistaken about having the graphics card output 60hz to my 120hz panel thinking it would still divided 24 by 120 I figured I would set the card to output 24hz, which is working, but just want to see if there is any downside to this. Graphics card is a 1080ti which only has a HDMI 2.0 port which is the reasoning behind this, the display is a Sony A95L. When using a custom created 24hz resolution in Nvidia control panel the Sony does show that it is infact receiving 24hz signal. This is solely used for watching movies so in theory this should give me a better experience than having it set to the max of 60hz, is this correct?
