talking everyday to silent treatment

I (27f) met this guy (28m) in January through the merging of two friend groups. We saw each other almost every day. He flirted with me, teased me, would get really close to me, ask about my interests, basically everything you’d expect from someone who was interested. He’d even do things with me when it was inconvenient for him. He never made any official moves, but everyone in both friend groups would ask if we were dating. They always wanted updates on what we were doing. He was never hot and cold, his communication style was consistent (he’d always text back within seconds), and it felt like he truly respected me when we had disagreements.

Here’s the problem. He kept sending me mixed signals in a way that never made me confident enough to ask what he wanted from me. The biggest problem was that he was dating multiple girls at once and showing me their texts. He would tell me about why he stopped talking to whatever girl he was talking to, talk about how annoying they were, etc. At certain points it felt like he was trying to tell me what he wanted in a relationship through them. He also slept around a lot. I made it very clear early on that I accept nothing less than commitment and he seemed to respect that boundary. I thought we were both content being just friends.

We got into a fight because he made plans with a girl over plans we had already made. He wasn’t even dating the girl…she was a coworker he had met that week. I told him to stop sending me mixed signals, that I did have feelings for him but didn’t want to just be one of his options and compete with other girls, and that it was starting to feel disrespectful. I know I went a little far because I accidentally involved a mutual friend he used to date. I just asked her for advice and she started texting him again and berated him for the way he treats women. The coworker ended up cancelling the plans with him. The ex texting him, me telling him to stop giving mixed signals, and the coworker cancelling the plans all happened at the exact same time.

The last thing he said to me was that we were still friends. I sent an apology text that night and haven’t heard from him since. We were on a Zoom call planning a friend’s party and he completely ignored me. I sent a check in text last week and still nothing. It’s been three weeks of silence.

I do think I betrayed his trust by texting the ex. I knew it was risky but I can’t change that. Even with that understanding, I feel betrayed by him giving me the silent treatment. He even told me a few weeks ago that he wants girls to tell him what their problem is so he can help resolve it. I have already decided that I’m not going to let him back in without an apology, but I’m not sure what to do. I don’t think he was manipulative but the longer he’s silent the more I wonder what his intentions were.
