Need a 65” TV rec for my dad

So my dad is looking for a basement tv. Usage will be in the lower end so he’s not looking to break the bank (looking to spend around $500.) most likely, when it is in use, will be playing sports or movies for his grandkids. I told him to avoid Samsung in that price range. I was looking at the TCL Q77 at Costco for $430 but the 144hz sounds too good to be true. Or should I try and convince him to get the Sony x90cl? I bought one last year and love it.

Bonus if it is available at Costco.
