What do you think of surgeons recommending PT less often for post-op joints?

I’ve noticed over the past couple years a trend in PT getting recommended less often for post-op joints. First I learned outpatient isn’t recommended as often for partial knees. Now most surgeons in my area no longer recommend PT for hip replacements. Just the other day we were referred a reverse shoulder by the hospital, and when I called the surgeon’s office for orders (I work in home health), the office was confused about why the hospital referred the patient, as they don’t give physical therapy to reverse shoulders.

This is bothersome to me. Aren’t we supposed to be experts in rehab, movement, and functional recovery? Why are we no longer valued in these areas? I’m going to look into the evidence, but I wanted to know how other PTs feel about this.
