Seriously? This major plot point in the series happens off screen? (Kai Allard-Liao and main story spoilers).

I finally got around to reading some books I could never get a hold of back in the 90s. I read the Stackpole trilogies (warrior and BoK) and then moved on to the Twilight of the clans, missing the four filler novels in between. So I'm finally doing my Natural Selection through Malicious Intent read through.

I was shocked to see in the very next novel, Natural Selection, that >!Kai Allard Liao is a Solaris champion all of a sudden. I was like huh?! When did that happen? I checked the timeline and expected it to be in Wolf Pack or something but it apparently just happens "off screen" so to speak and is just mentioned in a source book or something.!<

Anyone else find that kind of jarring? I thought that would be a major part of the series considering his father, and the redemption arc and excitement possible by including that in a novel... why did they do that?
