NYS Law Enforcement (Court Officer) chances; Background
Im currently 26 years old and have a prior arrest (illegal possession of a weapon, lowered to a disorderly conduct from 2017) and 2 possession of marijuana violations one from the arrest i just mentioned in 2017, and one from 2018). Im more than willing to explain the arrest to anyone asking if it means they will be able to offer more insight.
I was 18 and 19 years old then. I received a public urination ticket this past july (2024) when I went out to a bar but it was lowered to a parking ticket. Am I screwed here? I'm in the process of trying to become a court officer and as much as I love to have an opportunity at getting this job and have a career I can't help but think that it's pointless because I'll be DQ'ed and turned away.
I understand no-one here can offer me a definitive answer of any kind. I guess I'm just asking for some kind of insight from others who have been through the hiring process with some prior run-ins with the law that made it through or didnt, as well as some insight from others with no experience of that kind.
I have passed every single step (PAT, written psych, background, oral psych, pre appointment medical) Im just waiting for the board to look at my file (background handed to them by my Background investigator) and for them to look at everything I listed above and make the decision to fail or pass me for an academy spot. Theres been many cases, for Court Officer, where others were DQ’ed in the same situation as me (passed every single step step except the last)
