International nurse struggling to find a job
Looking for advice!
I'm a RN, 10+ years experience in a variety of settings with additional speciality training (that's not recognised here!), I was previously in a senior role and although I knew that moving to Alberta I wouldn't be able to step into a senior role, I never thought it'd be this difficult to find something!
I've applied for a wide range of jobs from casual to full time and anything in-between, I've had 3 interviews - 1 I didn't get (assume because they went with someone with more experience in that particular field), 1 nobody got as the position was temporary and the contract got pulled (but apparently they were keen for me to start there and have said to apply for any future roles), 1 they couldn't hire me because at the time I was looking for sponsorship/LMIA and they couldn't do it, but otherwise would have.
I now have an open work visa, and I'm applying in AHS, private clinics, rural areas, literally anything and everything that I'm suitable for, but it's soul destroying.
I've done my exam and have my Alberta licence, my bls, I'm doing courses I find online to help (like brain story, all the indigenous training I can find, any mental health courses, any free healthcare training).
I keep seeing the certified courses for different specialties - like emergency, mental health, pediatrics etc., but it's so expensive and I'm really reluctant to sit a bunch of exams for certifications for a job that I don't have yet and may not end up in that particular field 😫
I've applied for over 100 jobs now and trying really hard to not get too down about it. I've redone my resume and had it checked over by 'experts' who've said it's good, I re do a cover letter personalising to the post, any tips/advice/ideas would be gratefully received!
