"Why nobody is talking about this plothole/inconcistency/bad writing?" Discussion

Discussion

Has it ever happened to you? You finish a book and are ready to join a discussion on it reddit/goodread/your bookclub. Some people think like you, some don't, some bring the same critizisim as you, but you end up thinking: Why is none bring up this plothole/inconcistency/bad writing? And you try to but doesn't get enough engagement and you don't get to discuss it. And it is annoying because, how can it be that you are the only one that thought this scene didn't made sense? I'm the only one that saw this plothole? This is your change to shine!

To be clear, I'm not talking about specific books. This post is not to write "I'm the only one that hated the Cruel Prince?", this is about "In the cruel prince, Cardan/the political structure/ the anatomy of the fae don't make sense because...".

In my case, I can't undertand why more people didn't complain about the depiction of Spain in the Familiar, by Leigh Bardugo. I know it's fantasy, but is still based in the Golden Age in Spain, and the inquisition. And it's all wrong. There were attrocities commited during the Spanish Inquisition, but not like described in the book. If your grandmother was a jew that converted, you were as christian as the next if you didn't practice the faith. Also, anyone that speaks Spanish today can understand quite well ladino/sephardi, it doesn't make sense that everytime the main character speaks it everyone is puzzeled wondering which ancient lenguage is she speaking. The author said it's based on her family history, but the persecution souns more like WWII rather than from Spanish Golden Age. It took me out constantly from the book, and still I only saw one comment on goodreads that said "I now understand how russians felt about the grishaverse". I get that not everyone in this world is a history nerd, but not even Spaniards felt weirded out about it?

Anyways, this is mine. What is yours? Remmember to bring your most petty "I'm unique and missunderstood" self to this thread.
