Florida Home Pools

AskFlorida

My family has moved to Highlands County from northern Indiana. Our home does not have a pool, but many neighbors and homes in this area do. We don't however, see many people enjoying them or using them. I know it's only May, and I'm not home all day or all weekend to witness every single one, but we go for walks, take the long way home, and cruise on a golf cart and almost no one is outside, let alone using their pool. Is there a stigma around it, or is it just so commonplace that it isn't a big deal? Up north your pool is only open 3-4 months a year so you soak up every nice evening or weekend with it.

Many are screened in, presumably for bugs and critters. Are these expensive?

Are pools cheaper and easier to install and maintain than in the Midwest? Not winterizing is a perk but it's also year-round maintenance as well.

Are folks heating pools? Anyone using saltwater pools?

What's your take on the Florida pool, costs, functionality, and overall culture behind them? I can't grasp seeing so many yet no one in them.
